And the BestAct 2018/19 is…“PAUL” – the project of district 1820!
PAUL does good things around the world and let people’s eyes shine with joy and happiness. But who is PAUL?

Actually it’s not a person, it’s a water backpack called PAUL, short for “Portable Aqua Unit for Lifesaving”. The water filter was developed by a professor from the university of Kassel and is being produced to provide drinkable water out of contaminated one without any chemicals or energy consumption.
About two years ago Rotaract clubs from district 1820 decided to take part in a water project initiative from Mexico and to finance one water filter. The goal was to supply one commune in South Mexico with clean drinking water. One PAUL costs around 1,600 €. The Rotaractors collected the necessary funds with various fundraising projects and the district doubled that amount. “Wow, already two PAULs“, they thought back then. The project initiator from D4195 was already excited about the progress and support.
The idea of PAUL gained increasing attention from Rotary and it accelerated fast. A district grant together with the friends from D1860 and then a global grant with the Mexican friends raised the donation amount to almost $95,000! Thus, the team could afford obtaining and transportation of no less than 35 PAUL water filters.
The Rotaractors travelled to Mexico in order to install the first PAUL filter together with their Mexican friends. And that’s why they are proud to announce that the prize of 1,000 € will be spend for another PAUL! A very big thank to all the votes at the DeuKo 2019 in Munich. The team is feeling so proud to see what can be accomplished together with the Rotarian family!
